The Greg North Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship available to a current, graduating senior from each of the following school districts:
- Barberton, Copley, Norton and Wadsworth (Four Cities Compact)
- Coventry, Green, Manchester and Springfield (Portage Lakes Career Center)
The applicant must be enrolled in a college, university or vocational/technical/trade program. Preference shall be given to applicants who plan to pursue a career in a trade (preferably automotive, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, masonry, plumbing or welding). The recipient of this scholarship will also be selected on the basis of having shown perseverance, the ability to work hard and display a never give up attitude.
Greg North was a 1987 graduate of Norton High School who furthered his education to become an auto mechanic and later owned his own auto repair business. Greg was a compassionate man always reaching out to help others and supporting those in need, especially kids. He felt it was important to encourage the youth to get into the trades which supplied the inspiration to continue his legacy through this scholarship.
The North Foundation was initially created to provide two scholarships, one to a student from both Norton High School and Wadsworth High School. Fundraising efforts have enabled growth and the ability to offer additional scholarships and other assistance to those in need. The Foundation also provides a $250.00 scholarship to a Wadsworth High School wrestler who has earned The Perseverance Award.
